Obituary: Howard James Johnson

Howard “Howie” James Johnson, 90, of Cloquet, Minnesota left his earthly home Sunday, Sept. 15, 2019.

He is alive more than ever now in Heaven. We know that because of Jesus Christ’s death on the cross for his sins and Howie’s acceptance of that gift many years ago. John 3:16-17: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world but that the world, through Him, might be saved.

Howard died peacefully in his hospital bed at home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1928 in Cloquet to John and Ethel Johnson. He served his country in the Korean War on the front lines and was wounded. He worked at the Conwed Corporation for 40 years until the company was sold. He had a family business offering sleigh, hay and horseback rides. Tourists came from around the world. Howie didn’t feel a need for earthly stuff unless it was something someone was giving away.

Howard was preceded in death by his daughter Jennifer and four siblings.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; children Scott, Kim (Hani) Bishai, Allan and Mary; 11 grandchildren, Esaias, Geddy, Elliot, Abigail, Faith, Oscar, Zuzu, Maddison, Macy, Parker and Ari; four great-grandchildren, Winry, Israel, Freya and Athena; his sister Betty (Myron) Everson; and many other family members.

Visitation: 3 p.m. until the 4 p.m. memorial service Sunday, Sept. 22, 2019 at Journey Christian Church, 1400 Washington Ave. in Cloquet. Military honors will be presented by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the missions fund at Journey Christian Church.

A huge thanks to St. Croix Hospice, who took care of our needs for one year. You know you are all so, so special to our family. We could not have done this without you.
