A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
There were chickens. There were also goats, puppies, kittens, rabbits, roosters and even some llamas at Saturday's Chicken Swap in Carlton.
Sponsored by the Carlton Area Chamber of Commerce, the annual event kicks off Carlton's fall season. In addition to all the critters, local farmers had honey, salsa, vegetables, fruits and so much more. Hopefully everyone had a chance to stop and shop for something special. If you did not have an opportunity this fall, check out next spring's Carlton chicken swap April 25.
Another fall tradition in Carlton is the Ladies of Kaleva Finnish "Pannukakku" (oven pancake) and Sausage Breakfast 8-11 a.m. Oct. 14 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton. Tickets are $7 ($3 for kids age 6 and under) and proceeds go to a scholarship fund.
Closer to Christmas is another tradition: the 25th annual Toys for Carlton Area Kids from Nov. 6 to Dec. 11. There will be special donation boxes placed at local businesses and the two Carlton schools. As you are out shopping this holiday season, please think the families and kids in our area who could use your help. We work closely with the Carlton VFW, and the items collected are given out with the Christmas food baskets. Please donate unwrapped toys, gift cards, hats, mittens and scarves for kids ages 17 and younger. For more information contact Leola Rodd, 218-310-6065 or [email protected].
