Holly Compo was recognized in September by the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association as Correctional Nurse of the Year. She was chosen from candidates recommended by jail administrators and sheriffs across the state. Compo was presented her award by Carlton County sheriff Kelly Lake at the annual Jail Administrators Conference in Baxter.
Compo is a lifelong Carlton County resident and has been employed as a public health nurse in the county since graduating from the College of St. Scholastica nursing program in 2007.
She started her nursing career with visiting prenatal and postpartum moms, then started doing personal care attendant assessments and some part-time work in the jail.
She has been a full-time correctional health nurse at the Carlton County Jail since 2015. Besides providing nursing services to jail inmates, she has been involved with the District 2 Correctional Health nurse group since 2007 and the Minnesota Sheriffs’ Association Correctional Health Division since 2010. For the past seven years, she has also been integral in planning the annual conference put on by the Correctional Health Division.
She is a public health specialist for the jail. She has been acknowledged for her input and review of a report on care for incarcerated pregnant women with opioid addictions and managing the survey of Minnesota jail facilities.
