Donna Olean, 85, of Carlton passed away May 8, 2018 at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. She was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Bemidji, the daughter of John and Esther (Pettis) Bachman.
Alvin "Bud" Olean, 93, passed away Nov. 11, 2019 at Diamond Willow in Cloquet. He was born Feb. 20, 1926 in Finlayson, the son of Albert and Viola (Aslesen) Olean.
They were united in marriage on Jan. 8, 1949 in Hinckley.
Donna was a homemaker and devoted farm wife who loved her cows. She enjoyed cooking, baking and vegetable gardening. She loved dancing. She was a member of the Carlton VFW Auxiliary, J.M. Paine Presbyterian Church and choir in Carlton, and was involved in the PTA and the Band Boosters. Donna was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Herschel, Clifford, Lloyd, and infant brother Cecil; sisters Catherine Crandall and Beatrice Monroe; and daughter-in-law Lu Olean.
Alvin "Bud" served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and worked as a mechanic and welder for Carlton County for 28 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Bud loved working with horses, and especially elk hunting in Montana. He was preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Evelyn Gruner, Velma Blanche Prachar, Gloria Hattenberger, Dorothy Tomlinson, and Maxene Tordoff.
They are survived by their children, Robert (Sandy) of Carlton; Sandi (James) Olean-Stevens of Willow Park, Texas; Steven (Cuca) of Carlton; Scott (Dominique) of Carlton; Brent (Billie) of Carlton; Mary (Dennis) Wolf of Jim Falls, Wisconsin; and Todd (Lori) of Carlton; 15 grandchildren, Shane (Teri-Jo) Olean, Stephanie (Allan) Schmitz, Shawn (Misty) Olean, Danae (Jeramy) Holm, Jordan (Sarah) Olean, Cassie (Justin) McIvor, Katie Mae (Erik) Ecklund, Steven (Trisha) Wolf, Jessica (Brent) Boorsma, Allana (Shannan) Theesen, Daniel (Kayla) Wolf, Jon (Sue) Olean, Megan (Kelly) Haworth, JoAnna (Cesar) Garcia, and Jose Valencia; and 35 great-grandchildren. Donna is also survived by her sister-in-law Donna Bachman. Bud is also survived by one sister, Luella Olean, and brother-in-law Jerry Tordoff.
The family would like to thank their special friend, Frank Asperheim. Also, thank you for the loving care from the support staff at Diamond Willow in Cloquet, the staff at Cloquet Community Memorial Hospital, and the staff of St. Croix Hospice for the comfort care and support given to Donna and Alvin.
Visitation: 10 a.m. until an 11 a.m. memorial service Saturday, Dec. 14 at Nelson Funeral Care, followed by a luncheon in the fellowship room. Military honors will be presented by the Nicholson-Sellgren VFW Post 2962 of Carlton. See the family online guest book at http://www.nelsonfuneralcare.net.
