A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
This may be my last news column for a couple of weeks, as I had a total knee replacement scheduled for Dec. 16 at Cloquet Memorial Hospital. I do hope to be well enough to get back home to my computer to do the news, but who knows?
Our sympathies to the family of Philip Lippo, 78, of Cromwell, who passed away in his home Friday, Dec. 13, 2019 with family at his side. A memorial service was scheduled for Dec. 19. Phil’s obituary appears in today’s edition of the Pine Knot News.
Our sympathies to the family of Mary Line, 71, who died Dec. 7, 2019. Her memorial service was held at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell Friday, Dec. 13. She will be dearly remembered by many. Mary was a very talented artist, and I am privileged to own one of her original paintings.

The Dec. 14 Bethlehem Lutheran Women’s Christmas bazaar was a huge success. The attendance was lower than most years, but the generosity of the folks was greater! Thanks to all who attended, helped, or donated items for the bazaar. There were still items for sale after services on the 15th, so many folks picked up a few last-minute items. Proceeds from the bazaar go toward the Seafarers Center, Damiano Center, Union Gospel Mission, Carlton County crisis center, Arise Ministries (led by Roger Koskinen), camperships for our youth, Mother-Daughter Tea, and Sox for Detox. The quilts and blankets the women make and collect go to the Damiano Center, Union Gospel Mission, Silver Bay Veterans Home, confirmation youth and people in need of warm bedding. We thank everyone for being so willing to contribute to these needy causes.
Christmas Eve Services will be held 4 p.m. at Bethlehem in Wright, 5:30 p.m. at St. John’s in Wright, and 7:30 p.m. at Bethany in Cromwell. There will be no Christmas Day services.
