Wrenshall News: Taking on new year with one word

This was the first week of “back to reality” for a lot of us. School is back in session and most folks are back to work. Monday morning was a bit rough and it can be hard to find our way into routine again.

I’m like a lot of folks who are looking to develop some new, healthier routines with the coming year. One of the ways I am approaching this is by choosing just one word for 2020 that I can use to focus on and reflect throughout the buffering and jostling of daily life. Since having kids, I have a much shorter attention span and keeping one word in my brain is a lot easier than a list of resolutions. For 2020, I’ve chosen the word “imagine” and I’ve already gotten the chance to apply the word in a direct way through the school district survey that was mailed to residents.

The Wrenshall School District partnered with the Carlton School District to reach out to district residents, staff, and parents to gather input regarding operations and educational facility needs with a community-wide survey. Every resident of every household in the districts is asked to complete the survey. If you got one paper ballot in the mail but have more than one person at your address, you can call 218-384-4274, ext. 2001 for an additional online access code or paper ballot. This is an important way to imagine our future community and how we want to position ourselves and our resources going forward.

For those residents imagining a healthier future, Wrenshall Community Ed is offering Monday evening PiYo classes. This exercise regimen is a combination of low-impact stretching, strengthening, and bodyweight resistance that promises to promote lean muscle development, increase flexibility and burn calories. Sessions are every Monday evening in the Wrenshall School commons from 6-7 p.m.

And this coming week is a time to imagine making that shot. There are a lot of home basketball games on the schedule, so warm up your vocal cords for some solid cheering.

Finally, there are a couple ways to not only imagine yourself giving back to your community but follow through as well. There is a blood drive on Wednesday, Jan. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Wrenshall School.

For those who want to give time instead of blood, the city council is looking for an additional member to fill a vacancy. Interested citizens of Wrenshall are asked to submit a letter of intent to city hall by noon Jan. 20. Applicants will be contacted for an interview and the position will be up for election in November.

Whatever your word or your resolutions are for 2020, I’m imagining your commitment and success in attaining your goals.
