The Farmer’s Co-op Store in Wright is now at a point where the manager had to take money out of savings to cover some expenses. Sales have gone down. The only thing that makes sense at this time is to shorten store hours at least for the winter months. So, at the Jan. 21 meeting of the board of directors, a motion was made to go with 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and remain with 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. It passed unanimously and started immediately. The manager also volunteered to take a pay cut. We thank him for this gesture of good faith. Folks, if you want to keep our local store, it is so important to keep shopping there. It has some of the best meat in the area and if you watch the sales, prices are comparable to other stores. Weekly store ads are now available at the store, the Wright Post Office and the Northview Bank in Cromwell.

Have you ever thought about quilting but just didn’t know how to get started? The Cardinal Quilters will be holding beginning quilting classes 9 a.m. to noon on each Saturday in March at the Cromwell-Wright School. Class size is limited to 10 students and costs $15 for all four classes. You must have some experience and your own sewing machine. Those age 10 to 14 must have an adult accompany them. I went to the Cromwell Pavilion for the Young Old Timers senior dance last week. YOT sponsors a senior dance on the fourth Thursday of each month and this time we had a 50-50 raffle. There was a good crowd of 45 folks which is good considering YOT hasn’t had a dance in January or February for several years. A member requested it and I guess if you hold a dance, people will come. Cost is $7 a person.
I just got an email from Cromwell Mayor Sharon Zelazny, which brings very exciting news. Cromwell was awarded a $100,000 grant to deal with Pavilion Park drainage. The YOT club contributed toward the study so the city could actually apply for the grant.
“I’m very excited about this and I hope the club realizes how important they are and that they really are doing good things for the community,” the mayor wrote.

The school holds an open gym 5:30-7 p.m. every Sunday. Speaking of the gym, there aren’t too many home basketball games left, so try to get out to either the boys or girls games in February. Tournaments start in March.
That’s the news from the Edge of Wright.
