Fond du Lac candidate filings close

Candidate filings closed Jan. 24 for three spots on the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation Business Committee.

Only two people filed for RBC chairperson: Kevin Dupuis, Sr. (incumbent) and Bryan “Bear” Bosto. There will be no primary in that race because only two candidates filed, with the general election set for June 9.

Both open RBC representative seats will go to a primary election, set for March 31.

Five candidates filed for RBC District I (Cloquet) representative: Wally Dupuis (incumbent), Jeroam Defoe, Jarvis “Chubbs” Paro, Eugene Eny Reynolds and Todd Tidaback.

Four candidates filed for RBC District III (Brookston) representative, including Roger M. Smith, Sr. (incumbent), Roberta Fox, Edward Misquadace and Phillip Savage.

All three elected positions are for a four-year term.

The list of candidate names is not final, as they have not yet been certified by the tribal Election Court of Appeals judge. That was scheduled to happen Feb. 6, according to Fond du Lac communications director Rita Aspinwall.

According to the Fond du Lac Band website, the RBC will hold a lottery to determine the order in which the candidates in the primary election will appear on the ballots.
