Wright/Cromwell news

To all those folks born on Feb. 29, a very special Happy Birthday to you this year.

Congratulations to Paul Johnson and Lorraine Guentzel who were crowned the Valentine’s Day King and Queen at the Villa Vista and Cardinal Court on Feb. 11. They both were surprised and thrilled to be chosen by their friends and the staff. Send cards to them at: Villa Vista, 1220 Villa Ct Drive, Cromwell, MN 55726.

Happy 86th birthday to Leo Dahlberg on March 1 and Judy Miller (turning 100) on March 4. They both are residents at the Villa Vista/Cardinal Court and I’m sure would appreciate visits and/or cards.

We wish both Marion and Sheldon Larsen a speedy recovery after medical issues. Both are now recovering at home.

Well, I did it again. I wrote the “Wrong News” instead of the “Wright News” when writing about Beth Clark’s 500th coaching win at Hermantown. She actually graduated in 1983 and started playing basketball at Cromwell-Wright in 1977. Sorry for the misinformation, but we are still so proud of this local graduate.

The folks in our area are asked to write letters to our State Sen. Jason Rarick and Rep. Mike Sundin encouraging strong support for a bill providing money for street lighting in Cromwell. Mail letters to Sen. Rarick, Senate Building, 95 University Ave. W., St. Paul, MN 55155 and Rep. Sundin, State Office Building, 100 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55155-1298.

Here is what I included in my letters: I have lived in the Cromwell area for all of my 74 years and am anxious to see my town succeed and progress. I also dedicated my work life to the education system of the Cromwell-Wright school district for more than 50 years. I taught fourth grade for 32 of those years and have been a substitute teacher for 21 years. I now live in rural Wright, but I spend a lot of time supporting Cromwell and this lighting would make a huge difference there.

You can add your own reasons for supporting the lighting bill.

Community yoga meets 11 a.m.-noon March 2, 9, 16, 23 at the Pavilion. Cost is $3 dollars a session.

There will be a Presidential Primary Election Tuesday. Some area residents have already gotten their ballots in the mail; others will need to go to their voting place. If you got a ballot in the mail, be sure to fill in just one name on the ballot. You can’t vote for candidates from both political parties. Return only the ballot you voted on, not both. Ballots must arrive at the courthouse by 8 p.m. March 3. If someone is delivering your ballot, that person can deliver only three ballots.

TRIAD met at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on February 5th. The main topic was Elder Abuse and how to report it. The Minnesota Elder Abuse, Neglect or Exploitation Center provides a toll-free number, 844-880-1574. All reports are confidential and can be made by the individual who may be experiencing abuse or anyone who observes abuse. The abuse typically occurs at the hands of a caregiver or family member.

Bethlehem Quilting has resumed and meets on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon. New members, including men, are encouraged to join them. No experience necessary.

Bethany Lutheran Church Scholarship application forms for 2020 are available. The criteria are included on the application form. Forms are available at the back of the church. Deadline is April 15.

Firearm Safety Classes are being offered Tuesdays and Fridays 5-7 p.m. March 17-April 3. Students may not miss any classes to pass, and must be at least 12 years of age by November. It is limited to the first 25 students to sign up in the school office. Call Lars 218-269-2601 or Isaac 218-821-1627 with questions.

Window hours at the Wright Post Office are 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. on Saturdays.

Tri-Community Food Shelf, our local food shelf, is once again participating in the FoodShare March Campaign March 1-April 12. All funds or food stay local and are greatly appreciated. Look for donation receptacles in many spots throughout the communities of Cromwell, Tamarack and Wright. Monetary donations allow access to items for pennies on the dollar through sources not available to the general public.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
