The annual Cloquet City meet is set for Saturday, March 7 at Cloquet’s Pine Valley park. The event, sponsored by the Cloquet Ski Club, features ski jumping and Nordic ski races for all ages.
As of Wednesday, the event was still a go despite warmer temperatures this week, according to ski club member David Marc. The registration flyer can be completed at the Pine Valley chalet on Friday 6-8 p.m. (when there is jumping practice) or Saturday morning 9-11 a.m.
Marc posted on Facebook that the 40-meter jump has been heavily impacted by the warmup and is not jumpable, but the club is planning jumping on the 5-, 10-, and 20-meter jumps starting at noon Saturday. Following the jumping, the cross-country ski races will begin (approximately 1:30 p.m.). These races are open to all cross-country skiers. Skiers can choose to race the 200-meter kids’ sprint, 1k, 2.5k or 5.5k. Wooden skis are also welcome. Registration runs 9-11 a.m. Saturday.
The cost is $5 for each jump, $5 for kids’ cross-country skiing, and $10 for adult cross-country skiing. After the jumping competition, the club will have its 50/50 fundraiser where they dump a box of golf balls down the 20-meter jump and the ball that goes the farthest wins half the pot. Golf ball chances are $5 each or $20 for five.
