Superintendent applies in Mora

Carlton School District Superintendent Gwen Carman announced to the school board this week that she is seeking positions in other school districts. She said she had accepted an invitation to interview for a superintendent job in Mora. “I have also applied to other school districts,” Carman wrote.

Carman is one of six finalists for the Mora job, which had 26 applicants. The school board there was expected to interview candidates Thursday and today. The Mora superintendent is retiring.

Carman is in the throes of consolidation discussions with the Wrenshall district. The districts are seeking funding for improvements in facilities through the state legislature. A win in the bonding session could mean the districts would receive funding up to 40 percent of for an estimated $40 million in renovations and new building at South Terrace in Carlton and the Wrenshall school.

Carman was an elementary teacher and principal for nearly 25 years in Grand Marais for the Cook County district before being named Carlton superintendent in 2016.
