Wright/Cromwell news

With the advent of the coronavirus, there will be, and already have been, many cancellations in our area.

The worst one, at least for our girls basketball team, was the sudden cancellation of the state tournament after just one game (which they won). The whole team, coaches, parents and fans were devastated by this news, but the players held their heads high and will carry on the best that they can. We can be so proud of all the effort put into such a successful season and we can only hope that everyone concerned will move on and make the best of a bad situation.

Now, school is suspended in the whole state through March 27 as ordered by the governor. Here is an announcement that may help you out:

Families in the Cromwell-Wright Area: A few of us have banded together to help people who have school-aged children in need of childcare during the school closure. If you or someone you know is in need of emergency childcare for your elementary school children, please call Brandi Hascall (402-367-9530) or Liz Kabus (218-428-6733) to help get things set up. We have a list of people who have volunteered to give of their time to make sure this does not put additional stress or financial hardship on families in our community. We cannot guarantee anything, but we will do everything we can to help.

They also are willing to help with supplies of food if you are not able to get out to the stores for necessary items during the shutdown. Let’s all band together to help where help is needed.

Be sure to fill out your Census forms if you got them in the mail, or you can go to the website my2020census.gov to complete your form. Much of this information is needed to distribute funding for many things in our area, and we don’t want to be undercounted.

In these trying times, try to remember that not all is lost. Getting outdoors, enjoying music, family, reading, singing, laughing and hope are not canceled! So curl up and read a good book, watch a movie, write a letter or two, or call your friends and try to make someone’s day.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
