The primary elections for the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Reservation Business Committee (RBC) District I and District III seats originally scheduled for March 31 were postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The primary election will now be held June 9, 2020, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The general election will be held August 18, 2020.
Candidates for RBC District I (Cloquet) representative include: Wally Dupuis (incumbent), Eugene (Eny) Reynolds, Todd J. Tidaback, Jeroam Defoe and Jarvis “Chubbs” Paro. District I residents vote at the Fond du Lac Tribal Center in the ENP Dining Hall.
Candidates for RBC District III (Brookston) include Phillip Savage, Roberta Fox and Roger M. Smith Sr. (incumbent). District III residents vote at the Brookston Community Center.
Only two people filed for the RBC chair position: Kevin Dupuis Sr. (incumbent) and Bryan “Bear” Bosto, so there is no primary for that race.
According to the Minnesota Chippewa Tribal Executive Committee resolution, absentee ballots cast prior to the date change or before June 9 will be counted in the primary election. Band members can still apply for absentee ballots.
