Wright/Cromwell news

As we go through another month of “stay at home” orders, I hope you all are staying put, staying safe and staying healthy. I have heard of a few cases of COVID-19 in Carlton County, but so far we have only a limited number of folks infected. Let’s hope it stays that way.

One good thing about the shutdown is when I got my gas card bill, it was $46 for the last 30 days. Usually it’s more than $150, but the most I drive now is 20 miles a week to Wright and Cromwell. Oh, also the gas prices have come way down which helps too.

I see that Lucas Goodin of Wright and several other emergency room workers were modeling the homemade masks made by the Shilling family of Esko last week. We can’t thank our emergency workers enough. Also try to thank our post office workers for their dedicated delivery of our mail.

I hope you have been able to follow Pastor Deb Hanson-Carlson and Jana Anderson on Facebook as they share a worship service. Jana also does a Sunday School class. They both have been interesting and fun to keep up with. Other churches are doing the same.

We offer our sincere sympathy to the family of Chester Sorenson, 74, from Wright, who passed away Jan. 21. A graveside service will be held at a later date.

As many of you may remember, Chester’s mother built the original Ruby’s Restaurant in Wright back in 1978. John and Mark Dahlman framed the building and the family did the finishing work. This restaurant changed hands several times over the years and unfortunately it burned to the ground in January of 2019 during the coldest day of the year.

The family requests your prayers for Wesley Heikkila (Ann) who was moved into hospice care at the Veterans Home in Silver Bay, which is closed to visitors. If you would like to send a card to Wesley, the address is: Earl Wesley Heikkila, Minnesota Veterans Home, 56 Outer Dr., Silver Bay, MN 55614.

The third week of Cromwell-Wright Schools homework distribution by the bus drivers and volunteers went pretty well. Call the school at 763-286-6835 or 218-644-3737 with concerns. Remember that the boxes or coolers at the end of area driveways are for homework and food and not to be taken. If there are items that folks are giving away, there will be a “free” sign on them.

At least filing your taxes have been postponed until July if needed. I’ll close with the poem by Blanche Kingsley taken from her book of poems titled “My East Window.”

TAXES

Congressman, Congressman,

Oh, what will you do?

With all the tax money

We send in to you?

You have your pet programs

You would like to appease,

But spent it wisely

Won’t you, Senator Please?

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright. Be careful and stay safe.

How are you handling things? I’d love to hear from you. Email [email protected].
