A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Property taxes are due May 15, and the fact that the courthouse is open by appointment only means people should probably plan how they will pay, rather than racing to county auditor’s office at the last possible minute only to discover that in-person payments are not being accepted at this time.
According to Acting Auditor/Treasurer Kathy Kortuem, people can pay via the following methods:
• Mail a check, cashier’s check, or money order to Carlton County Treasurer, PO Box 160, Carlton, MN 55718
• Pay by e-check, debit card, or credit card either online at the county website or by phone. Per state statute, a convenience fee must be charged, ranging from $1.50 to 2.35 percent of the payment.
• As a last resort, a drop off box for check payments is located in the courthouse.
Receipts will be mailed to taxpayers if requested. If taxpayers have questions, they should call (218) 384-9125. Checks may take several extra days before showing as a withdrawal from your account.
