Carlton news

Although the weather has been rather chilly, the end of May will be here soon with the hope of warm weather and a time to plant our flowers and vegetable gardens. It is also a time to honor the family, friends and veterans who are no longer with us on Memorial Day, May 25. As in the past, the Carlton VFW Post 2962 Honor Guard will be visiting area cemeteries to honor the fallen men and women who gave their lives to keep our country free. Find the schedule for the honor guard on Page 1 of this week’s Pine Knot News.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Carlton High School graduation will have a different look this year.

Starting at 1 p.m. Friday, May 22, there will be a live broadcast on WKLK and Facebook Live of the graduation program. Only speakers in the program will be allowed in the “big gym” where it will be broadcast. The diploma ceremony starts at 3 p.m. in the parking lot behind Carlton High School. Parking permits will be required. Parking will begin at 2:30 p.m. The program will be broadcast on Facebook Live, WKLK and video recorded.

Congratulations to all of the 2020 Carlton High School graduates. We are proud of you and your great accomplishment. The winners of the Robert Rodd Memorial Scholarship are Alisha Broneak, Abigail Mickle, Brynne Mickle and Sawyer Thorman. Congratulations.

I want to send out a thank you to the doctors, nurses, other medical staff, first responders, firefighters, police officers and to all of the people on the front lines who are putting their safety in harm’s way to keep us all safe. I especially want to thank the men and women who work in the grocery stores, who are at their jobs every day during this difficult time. Reminder: Please wear a mask and use social distancing as we continue to fight this virus.
