Wright/Cromwell news

The Clothing Depot in Cromwell is back open on a limited basis. The hours and days are still the same — 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday — but they are allowing only eight people in at a time, and no children under the age of 12. All purchases will be put in their new shopping baskets, and the staff will bag the items at the counter. Please wear masks and be respectful of other customers and the workers at the Depot. Also, all donations will be put in the shed outside before the staff brings them in at a later time. Please, no huge loads or

electronics.

The Farmers Co-op in Wright has resumed summer hours: 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sundays. Manager Tim Bury said there has been an outpouring from the public, and folks have donated $1,700 toward those shoppers who may need help in this troubled time. Tim wasn’t quite sure what to do, so he had Jan get groceries together, and donated them along with store gift certificates to the Tri-Community Food Shelf to be distributed as needed. The store shelves stay well-stocked even though there are items that are not available from time to time. There was a shortage of yeast, eggs, and some meat for a while. The manager, employees and board of directors thank the public for their continued support of our local grocery store. It is so fortunate that we can have a grocery store and animal products warehouse in our area, and it wouldn’t exist without the support of our community and surrounding area. Even a lot of folks from the Twin Cities shop in Wright when they come up to their summer cabins.

Tim reported that someone ran into the pump house after store hours, doing considerable damage. After some great investigating by the sheriff’s department, the guilty party was found and the co-op received an insurance reimbursement of $836 for the cost of the damage.

The Bethany Beacons women’s group will hold a plant sale Saturday, May 30 starting at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Their rummage sale is on hold, but please keep saving items for the sale.

There are no plans for Vacation Bible School in our area churches, as they will depend on social distancing guidelines. Church services are still on hold.

The Cromwell Wright School held its first-ever outdoor graduation ceremony in the school parking lot Friday, May 22, due to the state social distancing mandate. The students, in their vehicles, lined up at the Cromwell Pavilion, proceeded to the Villa Vista, then returned to the school, escorted by Cromwell-Wright fire trucks and ambulances. The weather was great and the whole event can be seen on the school’s website. It’s well worth watching. Nathan Libbon presented an award for service to Amber Collman, an award for citizenship to Emmalee Hoover, and an award for leadership to Anja Schoenberg and Micah Pocernich. This year’s valedictorians are Josie Jokinen, Jordan Jokinen and Anja Schoenberg (all three have a 4.0 GPA); salutatorian is Emmalee Hoover. Micah Pocernich is the class president.

The Cromwell-Wright Dollars for Scholars committee thanks the community and the seniors.

Scholarships ranging from $300 to $1,700 were awarded to Emmalee Hover, Joselyn Jokinen, Taye Anderson, Taya Hakamaki, Anja Schoenberg, Amber Collman, Benjamin Hansen, Micah Pocernich, Cheyenne Smith, Lacie Zoeller, Shaily Hakamaki, Gary Allen, Jordan Jokinen, Cameron Dickey, Chassandra Ward, and Garrett Allen. Donations to the scholarship fund were made by many businesses, organizations, families and individuals.
