A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
I’m happy to report that Susan Walli Shelerud is now up and back on her feet, after a 900-pound car lift fell on her more than 10 weeks ago. Because of COVID-19 precautions, no one could be with her in the hospital while she underwent surgeries to put her feet back together. She was alone in her hospital room, keeping the family updated via her cell phone. Over the past few months she’s been in a wheelchair, navigating a new normal, from having to crawl up the stairs to get to bed every night and to be entirely dependent on her husband while she recovers.
On May 27 she was finally able to take her first weight-bearing steps, through tears of joy. This was such a milestone. It’s been such a challenging season in many ways for her. Her daughter, Jenna, wrote, “She is such a warrior.” Susan said, “My legs felt like sea legs and my feet felt like boats as they are bigger and wider now! But I walked!!” On the 28th she walked to the deck, garage, and pontoon with the walker. Her feet felt sore and stiff, but that is to be expected.
Sue says she is so thankful and oh-so-excited to be vertical again, and wants to thank everyone so very much for the love, support and prayers during this journey of recovery.
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wright will be resuming services at 10:30 a.m. June 7. They will be following Minnesota guidelines on social distancing, providing hand sanitizer and encouraging wearing masks. Services will still be up on Facebook in the afternoon, at a time to be set.
I see that the Evangelical Free Church in Wright resumed worship services.
At this time there are no plans to open the doors at Bethany or Bethlehem Lutheran for services in their buildings. They are following the recommendations from the bishop.
Monday yoga at the pavilion has resumed. We received our mayor’s permission to use it as long as we observe social distancing. Here are the rules: Keep 8 feet apart (not hard in that spacious place), avoid using the restroom, and take your yoga gear home between sessions to help us keep the disinfecting to a minimum. Ann says: “Hope to see you.”

All items will be put in their new shopping baskets, and the staff will bag your purchases at the counter. Wear masks and be respectful of other customers and the workers at the Depot.
