Colleen Marie Slater
Ending a lifetime filled with love and kindness, Colleen Marie Slater, 78, passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at their Mahtowa, Minnesota home Thursday, July 9, 2020.
She was surrounded by friends and family during her final days.
Born Feb. 28, 1942, in Chatfield, Minnesota, Colleen later grew up in Mahtowa, where she spent most of her life.
Colleen adored her parents, William and Marie Rodgers, and enjoyed lovely relationships with all of her siblings, Patricia Nolin, William Rodgers and Michael Rodgers.
She graduated from Barnum High School in 1960.
She married Robert Slater on Jan. 2, 1962, and they shared more than 58 years together.
Colleen was proud to be a farmer's wife, and together Robert and Colleen created a wealth of memories on their farm, Yellow Birch Holsteins.
Colleen had an eye for a good outfit and loved to shop, more for others than for herself. She remembered everyone's birthday, delighted at wrapping gifts, and always had a card for every occasion.
She enjoyed going to movies, reading up on world events, cooking, baking and eating an ice cream treat.
A gracious listener, Colleen built close relationships with many other farmers, neighbors, family members and friends. She always made time for children, mentoring them in 4-H and teaching many of her 29 nieces and nephews how to feed the calves.
She loved her cats as much as anything, and took time to wonder at all of nature.
Colleen is survived by her husband and siblings, several in-laws and all of her beloved nieces and nephews.
No services are scheduled at this time.
