Carlton celebrates this weekend

The fun continues this weekend in Carlton, where the annual Carlton Daze event was canceled due to the pandemic but some local businesses are continuing with several of the traditional celebration’s most popular events Friday through Sunday, July 24-26.

The festivities kick off Friday evening with bingo 4-8 p.m. at the Carlton VFW, followed by music 9 p.m.-1 a.m. at the VFW (Stranded) and the Third Base Bar (Runaway).

Saturday is a big day, with the VFW car show along Chestnut Avenue from 9 a.m. to noon, bingo from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and a poker tournament starting at 1 p.m. Register for the horseshoe tournament at the VFW at 11 a.m. Saturday, with games starting at noon.

There will be sand volleyball at the Third Base Bar, and a softball tournament at Chub Lake Saturday and Sunday.

Look for more music Saturday night at both venues, with Aftershock playing at Third Base and karaoke in the evening at the VFW.

Shane Olson will play Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Third Base as well.

Check out Paddlemania at Jay Cooke State Park Saturday and Sunday at various times. Paddlemania is an annual event where whitewater paddlers from around the region and nation come together to enjoy the beauty and the challenge of the St. Louis River. Paddlemania is also for those interested in getting into whitewater paddling and for those folks who enjoy watching whitewater paddling.
