With all the cancellations in the state, there is, sadly, another one we have to report. The annual Wounded Warriors United Minnesota event has been canceled. It was to have taken place at the Cromwell Park and Pavilion on Aug. 22. I talked with Logan Shiflett, one of the organizers, who said some riders might do the ride on their own, but there is no organized event this year. So, if you have a mind to donate to this worthy cause, please send your donations to Wounded Warriors United Minnesota, care of Logan Shiflett, P.O. Box 5, Cromwell MN 55726. All donations go to help our wounded vets, and are greatly needed.
The second annual Extreme Teens Youth fundraiser in the Big Top in Wright will be held 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, with a pig roast, music by the Holy Hootenanners and silent auction. All area folks are encouraged to attend. Masks and social distancing requirements will be observed. Silent auction items are needed, so call Liz at 218-428-6733 if you can help them out. Funds will support the youth attending the Lutheran ELCA National Youth Gathering in 2022.
The Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell is looking for applicants for a part-time cleaner at the church. A letter of experience and references is required, and a background check will be conducted. Apply in writing to PO Box 85, Cromwell MN 55726 by Aug. 20.
Special thanks to Bryce Pinnow for the beautiful new altar recently completed at Bethlehem Lutheran in Wright. The congregation is so looking forward to using it soon. Now, the altar, pulpit, baptism font and candlesticks all match, and all built by Bryce. The council will have to decide what to do with the old altar and pulpit, so if you have ideas or a use for them, contact Doug Suhonen soon.
Please add Beatrice Heikkila to your list of Cardinal Court residents who would enjoy receiving cards and letters of encouragement. The address is 1197 Villa Vista Circle, Cromwell MN 55726. And thanks in advance for your participation. It's the least we can do for our elders in the community.

I want to offer my sympathy to the family of Joyce Bratsch, 81, of Sturgeon Lake, who died on July 17, 2020. I got to know Joyce over our many years in Carlton County Retired Educators.
