Democrats get together

Democrats from the county and region gathered Aug. 20 at what was billed as a "People First Festival" on the lawn at Carlton's Oldenburg House. It allowed people to see and hear from Democratic candidates running for state and local offices, including Michelle Lee, at right, and Rep. Mike Sundin. Physical distance practices were observed as attendees arrived with face coverings and signs about avoiding virus spread mixed with traditional campaign signs. They came from across Carlton County and Pine County and the balance of Minnesota's Senate District 11. There were performances by area musicians and storytellers and candidate speeches.

Democrats will gather at Veterans Park in Cloquet 3-5 p.m. Sept. 7 for a drive-in style Labor Day chili cook-off. A music and speech program will be broadcast to car radios. Call Patty Murto at 218-879-4262 to enter the cook-off.
