Violet M. Axtell, 88, of Carlton passed away Sept. 7, 2020, at Barnes Care in Esko.
She was born Feb. 18, 1932, in Gettysburg, South Dakota to Alvin and Myrtle (Breitkreutz) Bryant.
Violet was united in marriage to David A. Axtell on Sept. 22, 1951. She worked as the Carlton schools food service manager for 29½ years, retiring in 1993. Violet was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church. She served as president of the Carlton County Area Senior Citizens. She belonged to AFS for 12 years, four card clubs, and the Birthday Club for 50 years. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, country music, visiting the casino and video poker.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents; husband, David Axtell; brothers Raymond Bryant and Leo Bryant; and sister Virginia Sell.
She is survived by her sons, Larry (Deb), Michael (Luanne) and Scott (Lauralie) Axtell; eight grandchildren, Dan (Jocelyn) Axtell, Shanny (David) Hurst, Nick (Amber) Axtell, Jeremy Axtell, Laura (Nick) Simon, Justine (Troy) Miller, Megan Axtell and Allison Axtell; 11 great-grandchildren; brother Gene (Lorna) Bryant; sister Marcella Lennartson; sister-in-law, Mary Bryant; two brothers-in-law, Jerry (Rose) Axtell and Jim (Connie) Abramowski; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was scheduled for 3 p.m. until the 5 p.m. funeral service Thursday, Sept. 10 at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet, with an interment service to follow at Hillside Cemetery in Carlton.
