Letter: Vote to end the spending frenzy

I was reading a book one day and came across a quote. It pointed the way the United States is heading with all the government giveaways and its trying to help everyone.

“A democracy could only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves gifts from the public treasury.”

That could include all the government programs that pass out free housing, food, fuel, health programs, Social Security and Medicare to those who don’t qualify and much more.

The quote goes on:

“From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

Very interesting. That is where this country is heading. Think about it. We are in such debt now and yet we keep expecting the government to give us more. Do we want to follow the path to a dictator or should we stop this crazy spending?

Let neighbors help neighbors, friends help friends or strangers in need, communities take care of their own and churches help those in their area.

Be sure to get out and vote and stay healthy.
