Wright-Cromwell News

With Veterans Day approaching on Nov. 11, the Cardinal Quilters have asked me to announce they have made a “Quilt of Valor” to be given away to a veteran in the community. If you would like to nominate a veteran, or are a veteran yourself, please call Linda Larson, 644-3484, to enter the drawing, which will be held Veterans Day.

There will be no Veterans Day programs this year due to Covid, but know that you are all appreciated for your service to our country. Veterans currently living at Cardinal Court or Villa Vista are Robert Stewart and Niilo Isaacson, U.S. Air Force; and Roy Miller, Leo Dahlberg, Al Elmer, Lincoln Hansen, Barb Setterquist, Glenn Solomon and Ken Solomon, U.S. Army. Julie Hedin will be having a round table with just resident veterans who want to attend.

If you are of the mind to, please send these Veterans a card of appreciation for their service. The address is 1220 Villa Ct Dr., Cromwell MN 55726.

Simple messages often say more than attempts to over-dramatize appreciation, and will be well-received by veterans of any branch and era.

The Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright has decided to hold in-person worship services only on the first Sunday of the month, due to recent low attendance, the pandemic, and the cold, darker winter months to come. Pastor Deb will resume 9 a.m. online services starting Nov. 8. We thank all for their participation and generous donations during the past nine months of the shutdown. We will miss seeing each other every week, but health and safety is a high priority.

Due to a recent positive Covid-19 test result at the Cromwell-Wright School, Cole Aho and Jillian Anderson were not confirmed at Bethlehem Church as planned for Nov. 1. The pastor will try again for Dec. 6.

Cromwell-Wright School’s grades 7-12 are distance learning from home, as there arae several teachers out and not enough subs. The elementary grades are still in session at this time. These decisions are made with the full advice of state and federal health officials.

The community drive-by trick-or treat event was well attended. I heard there were more than 130 kids taking part, and the committee will probably build on this attendance for next year.

A great meal for a great cause, with safe curbside pickup in the alley behind the Rustic Diner in Barnum, will be offered 5-6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6. The Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority is partnering with the Rustic Diner to raise money for scholarships for high school seniors in the area including Barnum, Moose Lake, Cromwell-Wright and Willow River. The cost is $12, with $3 going to the scholarship fund, for a delicious pork and chicken combo, coleslaw, baked beans, applesauce and roll and butter. You need to call 218-389-6084 to reserve your meals before Nov. 6.

There will be no hunter’s supper in Cromwell this year, nor the Red Bird craft sale originally set for Nov. 7.

Ruby’s Pantry visits 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 12 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. No boxes or bags needed; volunteers will fill boxes and bring them right to your vehicle. They also need plastic shopping bags as well as clean tote bags to pack items for this event; drop them off in the Bethany Lutheran Church entryway if you can.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright — stay safe and please wear a face covering when in public. Happy hunting.
