Wright/Cromwell news

My husband, Bob, came home last week after being gone for six weeks, after a stay in the hospital and five weeks at North Shore Estates in West Duluth. He could hardly wait to get back home, and I hope he behaves himself and doesn’t injure his back by lifting things he shouldn’t lift. Bob thanks everyone for the many cards and messages of encouragement that made the time go faster and being away from home easier to deal with.

Congratulations to Pam Rahja, who retired Oct. 30 after more than 34 years as a paraprofessional at Floodwood School. The students and staff honored her with a beautiful cake, lunch, cards and gifts. Pam thanks everyone for all the good wishes and looks forward to this new phase of her life.

Congratulations and a very happy belated 74th wedding anniversary to Ray and Alice Gurske.

Our sympathies to the family of Jim Frank of Wright, who passed away Nov. 4. I haven’t seen any details of an obituary or funeral services at this time.

I, for one, will really miss Jeopardy host Alex Trebek, who died Nov. 8. He was still working just 10 days before he died, and seemed in good spirits his last few shows, although they are pre-recorded several weeks or even months ahead of time. It will be interesting to see who replaces him. Maybe Ken Jennings?

Bethlehem and Bethany Lutheran churches will hold in-person worship on the first Sunday of the month only until further notice. Please check this news column for changes. Confirmation classes will start next week via Zoom. Call Bethany Church for more information if your seventh- or eighth-grader wants to join. Adults and other high schoolers are also welcome to join if they haven’t been confirmed. Call 218-644-3640 or Pastor Deb at 651-728-1627.

Yoga group meets at the Cromwell Park Pavilion 11 a.m-12 p.m. on Mondays. Wear a mask upon arriving and leaving, and take your yoga gear with you.

Donations for the Christmas Caring program are always appreciated. Donation containers are placed around Cromwell and Wright in area businesses and also at the Clothing Depot.

Also, donations to Dollars for Scholars can be sent in care of DFS at the Cromwell-Wright School, 5624 Hwy 21, P.O. Box 7, Cromwell MN 55726. With the inability to hold fundraisers this year, it is doubly important to send your donations to this fine organization.

The Alpha Delta Kappa teacher sorority sold about 100 meals for its recent fundraiser in partnership with the Rustic Bar in Barnum. ADK receives $3 per meal toward their scholarships. They are so thankful for the chance to do this event and may try again in the future. The scholarships are given to seniors at Barnum, Moose Lake, Cromwell-Wright and Willow River schools.

We’ve had a very nice couple of weeks weather-wise. It was great to have these nice days to get our outdoor projects buttoned up for the oncoming winter months.

I’m not sure how much subbing I will be doing for the next few weeks or months, since Covid-19 is making many more appearances in our area and in the schools. I sure wouldn’t want to be exposed and then bring the virus home to my husband, Bob. I’ll just have to see how things go.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright. Stay safe and please wear a face covering when in public.
