Sign up for lights contest challenge

While many Christmas traditions are being canceled or changed this year, the Christmas Lighting Challenge is not one of those events. Registration for the sixth annual Christmas Lighting challenge — a naturally socially distanced community event — is now underway through Dec. 10. Folks in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin can register now, decorate their home or business and help spread some holiday cheer.

The contest is free to enter. Online voting by the community for both homes and businesses begins Nov. 21 and ends Dec. 20. Winners in each city will receive special recognition at an awards ceremony. Winners in Duluth, Superior, Cloquet and Hermantown will receive a gift basket with hundreds of dollars in prizes and gift cards from local retailers and an award to commemorate their win. Sign up your home or business at christmaslightingchallenge.com.

The goal, according to organizers, is to “create a list of lighting displays and continue the family tradition of going out to look at Christmas lights together.”

Event categories are:

• Grand Master: Masters winners who have won two contests. They remain in this category for five years

• Master: Homes that have won the previous two years’ contests.

• Lighting Challenge Winners: Best Home and Best Business, based on number of total votes overall per featured city.

• Favorite City: Voting for your favorite city to encourage friendly regional competition.
