Judging by the number of cars parked on the street overnight for Tuesday’s winter storm, a number of residents didn’t get the message that winter parking is in effect now through March.
That means overnight parking is not allowed. From November 1 through March 31, cars cannot be parked on the streets or in alleys, to allow snowplow drivers and others to clear the streets where winter parking is observed. In Esko, parking on the street is prohibited between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m., and in Carlton, from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Cloquet doesn’t allow parking on the street between midnight and 6 a.m.
According to Cloquet City Code Section 5.4.05, from Nov. 1 to March 31 of each year, “no person, persons, firm or corporation shall park any motor vehicle on the streets, alleys, boulevards, sidewalks or public grounds within the corporate limits of the city between the hours of midnight and 6:00 a.m. This subdivision does not apply to a motor vehicle parked at an open business establishment between the hours of midnight and 2 a.m. unless ordered to be moved at the direction of a peace officer.”
