Wright/Cromwell news

The lucky winner of this year’s quilt made by the Cromwell Area Cardinal Quilters, a patriotic “Quilt of Valor,” is Glenn Solomon, who now lives at Cardinal Court. Congrats to him, and thanks to all our active and retired veterans for their service.

Congratulations to Bob and Lois Jobe on the birth of a great-granddaughter, born to Paul and Melissa Kyle on Nov. 4. Paul Kyle is the son of Barb and Kevin Kyle.

Our sympathy to the family of James William Frank, 86, of Wright, who passed away peacefully at his home Nov. 4.

Our community is saddened to learn that Elaine Huhta, 86, passed away Nov. 13.

George Legueri recently told me his wife, Alice, is now at the Diamond Willow assisted living facility in Cloquet. She has been there for about a month and I’m sure she would enjoy receiving cards from her friends and former students. The address is 130 W North Road, Cloquet MN 55720. Try to write clearly and in large print, as Alice has problems with her eyesight.

Birdie Harrington recently resigned from the Farmers Co-op board of directors, so now there is an opening on the board. If interested, you can give Tim Bury your information. There are five members on the board, and they meet on the third Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the store.

Speaking of openings, the Cromwell-Wright School is looking for substitute teachers. Interested candidates should submit a district application and resume along with any certifications related to the positions to Nathan Libbon, Box 7, Cromwell MN 55726 or to [email protected].

Donations to Dollars for Scholars can be sent to the Cromwell-Wright School care of DFS, 5624 Hwy 21, P.O. Box 7, Cromwell MN 55726. With the inability to hold fundraisers this year, it is doubly important to send your donations to this fine organization.

For the most up-to-date school information, just check out the school’s Bus Bulletin website.

There will not be in-person worship at Bethlehem or Bethany Lutheran churches Nov. 22 or 29. In-person worship will be held only on the first Sunday of the month unless the congregation is informed otherwise. You can follow the worship services on Facebook at 9 a.m. Sundays.

There will not be any more seniors meetings at the Wright Senior Center until the pandemic is under control.

If your family has felt the financial impact of the Covid pandemic from illness or loss of income, the Lakes and Pines Community Action Council may be able to help with emergency housing, utility/energy assistance, food and other resources. Contact them at 320-679-1800, 800-832-6082, or http://www.lakesandpinines.org.

The Northview Banks in our area are again sponsoring Hearts to Hands this holiday season. Bring your donations of mittens, hats, scarves, and masks in by Dec. 14 and hang them on the tree in the lobby. Donations are also accepted at the drive-thus.

While subbing in Floodwood last Friday, I happened to read the class a book about the first Thanksgiving and was interested to learn that the Pilgrims landed in America on Nov. 11, 1620. That’s 400 years ago. I wonder why we haven’t heard a thing about that very special anniversary? That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright. Stay safe and please wear a face covering when in public.
