The Nordic Spirit Youth Ski League offers cross-country ski lessons at Spirit Mountain Nordic Center to kids ages 5-14 at an affordable price, with great volunteer teachers.
The weekly lessons begin Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 and run for six weeks. The last lesson, on Feb. 14, will be a picnic. The cost is $20 for the first child, $15 for the second (maximum $45 per family), and includes a ski pass and use of ski equipment for the season. Due to the coronavirus, the equipment can be taken for the season with a $50 deposit per family.
The league will be passing out equipment and taking registration Dec 19-20. To keep contact and congestion to a minimum, registration times are organized by the alphabet and the first letter of the last name.
Dec. 19: Letters A, B, C 2-3 p.m .; letters D, E, F, G 4-5 p.m., letters H,I, J, K 5-6 p.m.
Dec. 20: Letters L, M, N 2-3 p.m .; letters O, P, Q, R 3-4 p.m .; letters S, T, U 4-5 p.m., letters V, W, X, Z 5-6 p.m.
To get fitted for equipment, come to the Spirit Mountain Nordic center at the top of the hill (not the chalet). The entrance road is across from the bubble lift. Download the registration form at http://www.duluthxc.com (select “Programs” then click on “Other Local Programs”), or email [email protected] or call 218-626-2532 for information. Volunteers are appreciated.
Another good place for young skiers to learn is the Cloquet Ski Club, which already held its registration and meets at Pine Valley park in Cloquet. Check out their Facebook page @CloquetSkiClub for more information, or contact Pat Marciniak at 218-269-2948.
