Karen Ann (Habhegger) Morabito, 78, peacefully passed away of Covid-19 on Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. She was born Nov. 8, 1942, to Adeline (Selen) and William Habhegger.
She graduated in 1960 from Carlton High School and went to Logan College of Chiropractic in Missouri. There Karen met her husband, Carl Morabito, of Tarrytown, New York. The couple resided in New York until 2018. She worked in health care for 40 years.
She lived in Westchester County, New York and moved to her camp on the St. Lawrence River when she retired. Gardening and decorating were her hobbies and she had a special knack for both. She appreciated anything to do with the arts, be it ballet or theater, paintings or sculpture and was a supporter of all, encouraging artists to follow their passion.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 1981, and her parents.
She is survived by her brother, Dean (Barbara) Habhegger of Edisto Island, South Carolina; and sisters, Nona Thornblad of Barnum, Penny (Alan) Keay of Barnum, and Nichal (Tim) Habhegger of Duluth; along with 18 nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to Eleanor Stevenson of Ogdensburg, New York for the care she provided Karen prior to moving her to Minnesota, and to the excellent caring staff at Inter-Faith Care Center and St. Croix Hospice.
A memorial service will be in late spring in Minnesota, depending on pandemic protocols. Arrangements entrusted to Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Memorials may be sent to Inter-Faith Care Center, 811 3rd St., Carlton, MN 55718. To sign the guestbook and offer an online tribute, see http://www.atkinsnorthlandfuneralhome.com.
