A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news

Go local with online options

There are more ways than Amazon and huge national chains to do your Christmas shopping online.

The Pine Knot News is offering a free online "Shop Locally" service to all area businesses and shoppers. Just head to http://www.pineknotnews.com and click on the Shop Locally button to see what local businesses have to offer. A wide range of businesses are participating: each one has its own page, complete with photos, shopping and contact information, and a map to help customers find them.

Offerings include arts and entertainment, food and drink, services, automotive, apparel, local crafts, household, health, ethnic offerings and much more.

Pine Knot News advertising director Ivan Hohnstadt had the idea for the new service, and he is the one who made it happen.

"I guess the cancellation of the craft show at the Armory made me think there are so many businesses, especially restaurants, that have had to operate under new restrictions. Plus, I know that people are worried about going out, so I thought this was a good way to give them some good ideas from home, and they could just go shopping."

Shoppers can choose to call and order goods for curbside pickup or delivery, or use the online tool to get an idea of what's out there before they head out to buy last-minute items.

"Now more than ever, local businesses need our support," Hohnstadt said. "This was a good way for us to give back to our advertisers and other businesses in town. I hope people will take the time to check it out - there's a lot there already, and lots more to come."

The Pine Knot News will keep the "Shop Locally" service on its homepage for the foreseeable future as a service to the community. Any advertisers interested in participating should email [email protected].
