Carlton County residents are encouraged to recycle their fresh-cut Christmas trees during Treecycling, a free program with dropoff locations throughout the region.
“Holiday trees, like yard and garden waste, are banned from the trash in Minnesota,” said Karen Anderson, WLSSD’s director of community relations. “Trees contain valuable resources that can be reclaimed through Treecycling. Collected trees will be beneficially reused as fuel, as mulch to line paths or for other purposes, while recovering resources and saving landfill space.”
As in the past, this season’s Treecycling program offers a variety of convenient tree recycling sites, including two in Carlton County and nine in Duluth.
• Sappi Fine Paper (gatehouse entrance), East End Ave. B, Cloquet, through Jan. 11
• Moose Lake compost site (across from city garage), Moose Lake, through Jan. 11
• For locations in Duluth visit wlssd.com
Remove ornaments, lights, tree stands and tree bags before bringing trees to a Treecycling location.
Wreaths, garland and other evergreen decorations with wires are not recyclable.
