Wasn't the frost on the trees beautiful on Saturday? I couldn't resist taking a few photos of the white evergreens and the brilliant blue sky. It surely was a winter wonderland.
Congratulations to Charles Kabus, son of Liz and Tom, who was recently chosen as one of the Students of the Month at McGregor Elementary School. He was deemed a responsible fourth- grader who is hard working in everything he does and shows kindness to all.
Doug Suhonen reports that the Suhonen family has had a tough December as his sister, Mary Suhonen Erickson, lost her husband Sherman Erickson, 70, on Dec 28, due to a massive heart attack. Doug's wife, Bonnie, is home recovering from heart valve replacement on Dec. 30, and Peggy's husband, Larry Dahl, passed away earlier in December. May the Good Lord prepare us all for a better 2021.
Our sympathy to the family of Sandy Olson, 79, of Cromwell, who recently passed away. I don't have many details to share. She was a farmer and I got to know her a bit while subbing at the Cromwell-Wright School in recent years.
I just got an email from Rose at the Pine Knot and she relates the following: Carolyn and Valerian K. of St. Paul just renewed their subscription and wrote, "Jennie Hanson's column tells us the news of Cromwell and Wright. It's important to us." Thanks for that comment.
Yoga started again Monday and Ann Markusen said she's planning to hold the classes for all into the future. Arrive and leave with a mask. They are not required when we are spread out on the dance floor. Questions? Call 218-428-3300.
Ruby's Pantry will be open 9:30-11 a.m. Jan. 14 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. No boxes or bags needed. Volunteers will fill containers and bring them to your vehicle. Cost is $20 per share.
Does anyone know the treasurer is for the Lakeview Cemetery in Wright? I know of someone who wants to donate money and needs a name and address so funds can be sent.
The Forest Hill Cemetery caretakers are thankful for the response to their recent fundraising campaign. I see that my efforts have proved to be fruitful and my relatives and several others have responded. I just got an update today from Tina Johnson and we are at $3,100. Bob DeCaigny writes: "I think in 2021 we will send out an appeal letter for people to consider designating the Forest Hill Cemetery in an estate gift, if they are of a mind to do that. That may allow us to be sustainable well into the future."
The gals in charge of the annual Christmas Caring Program want to thank everyone for their donations. They were able to give gifts to more than 70 kids, which surely made their Christmas much better. It's always great to bring joy to others.
The Best Christmas Ever program was also a great success. Thanks to all the businesses and individuals who made this family's Christmas special.
And speaking of donations, the local area Women of the ELCA donated homemade masks to the Lutheran Social Services mask project and they were very much appreciated.
Also, gift bags were distributed to the kids and youth at Bethany and Bethlehem for Christmas this year as they were not able to perform in a Christmas program, but the church folks wanted to make sure the kids knew they were not forgotten.
Taya Hakamaki recently got her first collegiate points with a 3-point basket while playing for the University of Minnesota Duluth basketball team against Winona. I'm sure this is just a beginning to a great career for her at UMD.
I was wondering if anyone knows how we could get a copy of Margaret Webster's books: "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Cemetery" and "Are All The Heroes Gone." Please let me know if they are still available.
If you are missing the YOT Senior Dances? They will not be happening yet, but you can listen to polka music on the radio every Saturday morning with Patty and Michael on "The Funtime Polka Party," 9-11 a.m. on KDAL.
Calendars for 2021 are available now at the Farmers Co-op store in Wright or Northview Bank in Cromwell.
Happy New Year to all. I'm sure we want a better year than 2020. That's all the news from the Edge of Wright.
