A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
I have received several thank-yous for keeping my readers informed during these past 11 months of the stay-at-home pandemic. It seems that every week when I sit down to type this column, I don’t have that much to share, but when I get to writing there’s always some news to share. Also, thank you to all my faithful readers and folks that share their news with me so this column can keep going. Remember, we are all in this together and need to work together to make a brighter future.
I had the opportunity to get the first of two Covid-19 vaccine shots last week at the Cardinal Court in Cromwell. They had a few doses left after giving the vaccine to 100 percent of the residents and staff, so they made a few quick calls to see if any of the volunteers at the facility were interested in getting vaccinated. I jumped at the chance and got there in just 20 minutes. The only side effect I could notice was my arm was a bit sore for two days. The second vaccine shot is supposed to be given in February.
Ann Markusen says yoga will continue to meet on Mondays as far as she can see into the future. Wear masks upon arriving and leaving; they are not required during the session on the dance floor. Questions, call 218-428-3300.
I had a recent request for the books Margaret Olson Webster has published, and I’m happy to report I have several copies of each book: “Life–Times Six” ($15), “Are all the Heroes Gone?” ($20) and “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Cemetery” ($20). Postage is additional, or I can drop them off where you would like. Send me a check or cash and let me know your address and I can get them to you. Helen Harp Johnson writes: Margaret and I were best friends from first grade through graduation from UMD in 1961. So many fond memories! We stay in contact by phone, recently it’s been less frequently though. I hope that she knows how special she is and I hope the residents of the area realize and appreciate what a talented author and artist she was and how much she served the community.

Our sincere sympathy to the family of Ettarose Marie Britton, 26, of Cromwell, who died Jan. 7 at University of Minnesota Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born on June 17, 1994, in Minneapolis to Larry Britton and Tina Gruwell. Etta grew up in the Cromwell area and was blessed with amazing foster parents who cared well for her as she battled cystic fibrosis through the years. Etta truly loved fishing, playing games, puzzles and reading, and could be found watching just a “few” episodes of Dr. Pol on TV. Services were held Jan. 17. Cards can be sent to the family care of Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home, P.O. Box 338, Moose Lake MN 55767.
I recently visited with Janette Carlson Worgren on the phone, and she informed me that her nephew, James Carlson Jr., 61, passed away Nov. 3. There may be a memorial service this summer. His two younger brothers, Bruce and Robbie, have also passed away, leaving no descendants.
I would like to wish my husband of 50 years, Bob, a very happy 85th birthday on Jan. 25. He’s been back home since Nov. 3, after a six-week stay in a nursing home in Duluth. Now we just have to keep him home. Also, Happy Birthday to all those folks celebrating their birthday in January.
That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
