Wright/Cromwell news

I recently found a painting my great uncle Dave Larson did of his wife back in the 1940s, but it has an opaque coating of some kind that has made the painting difficult to enjoy to its best. So, I was wondering if anyone knows of an art restorer in the area? This painting would be a much-improved family treasure if fully restored. It looks like he put a clear coating over it and as the years went on it became cloudy.

Sure seems strange not having any football games on national TV this weekend. I didn’t realize how much I enjoy the games until they weren’t on. But, next week is the Super Bowl so that will be fun to watch. I can tell you the score of that game before it ever starts, and if you don’t believe me give me a call or email and I’ll tell you what it is.

We note the passing of former Cromwell high school teacher Don Crouch. He was 89 at the time; I don’t have any other information to share, unless someone lets me know.

Get well wishes go out to Marilyn Schultz who, unfortunately, fell on an icy hill Saturday, Jan. 30 and broke her left leg above the ankle. She may need surgery, but has to go to an orthopedic surgeon this week to check it out.

Ruby’s Pantry will be open 9:30-11:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. No boxes or bags needed. Volunteers will fill boxes and bags and bring them right to your vehicle. Cost is $20 per share.

It looks like the Wright Area Seniors are meeting again at the Senior Center in Wright on Wednesdays at 1 p.m. The first Wednesday of the month is their regular meeting; on other Wednesdays they meet for games.

Participate in yoga at 11 a.m. every Monday at the Cromwell Pavilion. Cost is $3 per person to cover pavilion rental. Yoga mats provided. Masks are required upon arriving and leaving, not necessary during well-spaced sessions; take your yoga gear home with you. Questions? Call instructor Ann Markusen at 218-428-3300.

Be sure to check out the Cromwell-Wright school Bus Bulletin on their website. Here are a couple of this week’s highlights: Yearbooks are now for sale for $50 until Feb. 12. The price will go up after that date. Forms are outside the office or see cromwell-wright.picaboo.com. The drama club is in need of two “up” tables and chairs for their One Act performance. If anyone has one they would like to donate or that we could borrow it would be much appreciated.

The other day Rick Gresczyk Sr. came over to pick up the books he wanted, written by Margaret Webster, and we got to talking about writing and how we both have been writing now for years. I also gave him a copy of the limericks I’ve written, so when he got home he wrote some limericks too. Here’s a couple:

Jennie’s a lady on the edge of Wright

She gathers weekly news both day and night

She’s a devoted teacher

And a good little preacher

Happenings around here she brings to light

Her husband, Bob, is up and around

Now in his home is where he is bound

We enjoyed our visit there

Stories that we all could share

Good times together is what we found

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright. More next week, Deo volente.
