Wright/Cromwell news

Cromwell mayor Sharon Zelazny asked me to pass along information about the Highway 210 project. The timeline for the project has changed. Testing in the area last fall revealed the need for some design changes. Instead of an early bid date, the project will be let in June since the secured project funding is for the 2021 fiscal year. Preliminary work is being done. The construction through town will start in the spring of 2022 with the goal of completing it in one season. Mayor Zelazny said although this is disappointing, it is better to make sure the project is done correctly. Anyone who has questions is welcome to call her.

Get-well wishes go out to Marilyn Walters of Cromwell, as she is dealing with Covid-19 at this time.

Sherrie Hamre and family thank everyone for the kind condolences and donations to the Dollars for Scholars scholarship set up in her mother-in-law Elaine Huhta’s name at the Cromwell-Wright school. They know she would be very pleased with this. They are still struggling with their loss.

Here’s a special birthday request: Niilo Isaacson is turning 98 on Feb. 17. Since he cannot have visitors now, let’s flood him with birthday wishes. Wouldn’t it be awesome if he could get 98 cards for his birthday? That would brighten his day.

Send cards to: Niilo Isaacson, Cardinal Court #211, 1220 Villa Court Drive, Cromwell MN 55726.

I was just thinking of our Sunday school at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright. We used to have 40 to 50 kids back in the 1970s and 1980s, and now we have only five to eight kids at the most. And we don’t meet in person either, so there is no Sunday school right now. Bethany in Cromwell isn’t meeting either, and they don’t have many more kids than we do. Times sure have changed.

I think there are still quite a few kids in our community of Sunday school age, but either their parents don’t go to church or haven’t been bringing them.

Husband Bob spends a lot of his time in his lift recliner. He comes out to the kitchen for breakfast, mainly oatmeal, plays three games of cribbage if our friend Shirley comes over, then heads back to his recliner. At least the recliner has massage and heat settings, so that seems to help his back pain.

I do have to help him quite a lot because his back is so bad and I worry that he could fall. We don’t know what would happen since I would not be able to help him get up and the strength in his arms and legs is pretty much gone.

He usually eats an afternoon meal around 3:30 and has snacks to munch on. When he does move around, it’s just a shuffle; but he is using a walker with a seat, so he can stop and rest if he needs to. He hasn’t been out of the house for any reason since he got home from the nursing home on Nov. 3. But he never complains, so that is a blessing.

The residents of the Villa Vista and Cardinal Court are getting their second Covid vaccine shots this week. Let’s hope this opens things up so the residents can receive more visitors soon. It’s been a long year without family and friends.

Ash Wednesday marks the beginning

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright. Happy Valentine’s Day.
