Wright/Cromwell news

The residents of the Villa Vista and Cardinal Court got their second Covid vaccine shots last week. Let’s hope this opens things up so the residents can receive more visitors soon. It’s been a long year without family and friends being able to visit them.

Condolences can be sent to his daughter, Sharon Lake, at P.O. Box 164, McGregor MN 55787 and to Dolly Niemi, Cardinal Court, 1192 Villa Court Drive, Cromwell MN 55726.

Doreen of the Wright post office informed me that if you are sending letters to area ZIP codes and don’t want them to go to St. Paul first, drop them off inside the post office, into the top slot (“Local Mail”), so they go to Duluth instead for processing and delivery.

Yoga meets 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Mondays at the Cromwell Pavilion at $3 per person for pavilion rental.

Pastor Deb has asked me to remind those interested that Bethany and Bethlehem’s 9 a.m. Sunday worship and Wednesday’s Bible study can be found on the YouTube channel.

I mentioned to Marian Kukkola Reed of South Dakota that I am still subbing in Floodwood from time to time, and she emailed in reply: “I miss the teaching, but driving to Floodwood in snow wouldn’t be my idea of fun. One of my memorable drives was in my Volkswagen bug from Cromwell to Mt. Iron in snow and drifting. Fortunately, I could follow a big truck with a plow most of the way. When I got to Mt. Iron, I turned on the street where I shared a house with two other teachers, gunned the engine, and had to leave it where it got stuck.”

Here’s a true story about Valentine’s Day from 2009. I was wondering if my husband, Bob, would be giving me a Valentine’s gift when he pulled a $20 bill out of his wallet and handed it to me saying, “Here, go buy yourself some flowers.” Well, I did just that, but instead of flowers, I bought two bags of flour and came home and made him some chocolate chip cookies. And, incidentally, I still have that $20 bill as a reminder of his love and caring. When you’ve been married more than 40 years, you take any gift you can.

Next week is School Bus Driver Appreciation Week. The folks at Cromwell Bus Service had some friendly advice about heat on the buses, especially in the middle of the cold snap: “Why does our bus feel so cold? Nothing functions at 100-percent when it is -20 or -30 out. The heaters are all on and functioning at full capacity, but along with the crazy weather the bus is making a lot of stops close together, and the door spends a lot of time open.

“We are also required to keep at least two windows open at least an inch to ensure maximum air circulation due to the Covid-19 transportation requirements. ... The last few days most buses have closed the windows. Some have just left one open a crack.”

“Please be sure your student dresses for the cold. Some children don’t have jackets on in the morning. Please be prepared and wear winter appropriate clothing, including boots, snow pants, jacket, hat and mittens/gloves.”

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
