Leo LeRoy Dahlberg, 86, of Cromwell passed away Feb. 13, 2021, in Villa Vista Care Center in Cromwell. He was born March 1, 1934, in Bigfork to Roy and Marie Dahlberg.
Leo grew up in Effie and graduated from Bigfork High School in 1952. He married Marie Groth in 1956. Leo joined the Army and served until 1958. After his discharge, they made their home in Minneapolis, where Leo worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator, operating both dozers and cranes. In 1963 they moved to Wright and purchased the Groth Lumber company from Marie's parents. Leo owned and operated the lumberyard until retiring in 2000.
Leo enjoyed traveling, fishing, building, metal working, and rebuilding antique Oliver tractors with tracks.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, in 1978.
Leo is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Gary Wilkie) Lake of Palisade; grandchildren, Robin (Joshua Staub) Lake of Byron and Eric (Taylor) Lake of St. Paul; son-in-law, David Lake of Cromwell; longtime companion, Dolly Niemi, and her family; brother, Norman (Mavis) Dahlberg of Iron; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 11 a.m. until the 1 p.m. funeral service Saturday, Feb. 20 in the Atkins Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th St., Cloquet. Face masks and social distancing are required. Military Honors will be accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. From the funeral home parking lot, the service can be heard on FM 98.3.
