The annual Frozen Forester race at Pine Valley is set for March 13 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cloquet's Pine Valley Park. As usual, racers have myriad choices. They can do a 5K run/walk/snowshoe -- as a family friendly trails option or a more challenging off-trail 5K -- starting at 10:30 a.m. and/or a 15K bike ride on groomed trails starting at 8:30 a.m. (These times are correct - the print story was incorrect.) Cost to register is $30 for one event or $40 for both.
For the off-trail race, participants will need to find the trail of ribbons in the woods, race founder Tim Krohn said, adding that this year's race will be run completely within the Pine Valley park boundaries.
Proceeds will go to the final bike trail extension along with maintenance and improvements at Pine Valley. Krohn explained that they are creating a quarter-mile-long bypass for the bike trail that will go around the ski jumps in the winter months.
Organizers prefer people register as soon as possible at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=81415, but there will be walk-in registration available that morning. They are taking Covid precautions for the race and registration. Masks and social distancing will be required while waiting to race and whenever people are with others outside their own group. Because of Covid, racers are encouraged to bring their own refreshments.
