Jeanne Evelyn Peter, 91 of Cloquet, passed away at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton on Sunday, March 21, 2021. She was born Feb. 27, 1930, in Minneapolis. Her parents later moved back to the family farm in Milaca, where she spent most of her childhood.
Jeanne attended Gustavus Adolphus College, graduating in 1951. She taught business education in McGregor for several years before moving to Michigan to teach at Suomi College in Hancock. There she met Irvin Peter. They were married in 1957 and created a happy life for three children. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Irvin died in 2014.
Jeanne and Irvin moved to Cloquet in 2001 to be closer to their son, Ken. They enjoyed 12 very happy years in Cloquet as active members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, and as lifetime members of the VFW and its community service branch, the Cooties.
They frequented the Friendly Ground Coffee Shop and made almost daily trips to Perkins. Irvin experienced a fall in 2012 and lived the final two years of his life in Sunnyside Care Center. Jeanne moved to an apartment in Suncrest. After Irvin's death she adopted an elderly cat named Precious and they took care of each other until health problems made it necessary for Jeanne to move to Inter-Faith Care Center.
Jeanne will be remembered for her smiles and positive attitude. If her children or grandchildren participated in a special activity or celebration, she was there. The spouses of her children remember her for accepting them into her family as one of her own. She always had time to listen, and she loved a good story. There was always enough love to go around.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Janet (Ron) Poire of Minneapolis, Ken (Mary Beth) Peter of Cloquet, and Carol (Pete) Klitzke of Cloquet; four grandchildren, Alina Peter, Hans (Liz Stageberg) Peter, David (Lauren) Klitzke, and Andy (Nicole) Clade; and her niece, Doris Hanson. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents, Ed and Evelyn Hanson; brother, Warren; sister-in-law, Dolores Hanson; and her nephews, Edward and Mark Hanson.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the exceptional staff at Inter-Faith for their compassionate care of Jeanne during the last years of her life. A private family service will be held March 29 at Nelson Funeral Care.
