At the latest quarterly Carlton County Health and Human Services meeting April 12, I learned about the Covid-19 response here in Carlton County. According to HHS director Dave Lee, 50 percent of residents have been vaccinated, and we need to get about 5,000 more residents vaccinated to reach 70 percent. So, if you have yet to get vaccinated, please call the Minnesota Department of Health Covid-19 Public Hotline at 833-431-2053 or check the vaccination website vaccineconnector.mn.gov for more information.
I have had several requests for the YOT senior dances to resume, but Cromwell mayor Sharon Zelazny informed me that the city cannot allow dances at the Pavilion just yet. We may be seeing some changes in the current guidelines, but nothing has changed about dances yet.
A beautiful memorial service was held April 24 for Barbara Bernstorf, 80, of Meadowlands. Barbara has a family connection to me, as my maternal grandmother and her father, Harold, were brother and sister. The service was held at the Atkins Northland Funeral home in Cloquet with most of her family and friends able to attend. You could tell by the loving words shared that she was deeply loved and will be dearly missed. Rest in peace, Barb!

The Cromwell-Wright fourth-graders held their annual March food drive. This year students collected money rather than the traditional food donations. They had a goal of raising $1,000 and absolutely crushed it! They brought in a grand total of $2,030.45, which was presented to the Tri-Community Food Shelf in Cromwell March 26. Thank you to everyone in our school community that donated to this great cause.

In closing, it’s been 15 years since my mother, Katharine Dahlman, passed away April 30, 2004. We miss her dearly and we keep the memories of her alive in our hearts.
Those we love don’t go away. They walk beside us every day, unseen, unheard, but always near. Still loved, still missed, and very dear.
