Historical society to hold annual meeting in May, reopen in June

The Carlton County Historical Society has seen its fair share of change over the past year, including a new roof and a new director who came and went in that time.

Former board president Ed Kavanaugh resigned in March to serve as interim director following the resignation of Beth Lyle, who served March 2020 until March 2021. Lyle has taken a full-time job elsewhere, as the CCHS job is part-time.

The board has begun the search process for a new executive director. Kavanaugh will return to the board of directors when the new executive director is hired.

Amy Utech continues to serve as administrative assistant, Darlene Seelos as barn and fair committee coordinator, and Carol Klitzke as an office assistant.

The reopening of the museum is tentatively scheduled for June 25. Updates on safety precautions will be provided through the CCHS newsletter and social media.

The Carlton County Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at the Carlton County Transportation Building.

New board members include Dawn Bergeron, Bob Bomier and Emily Fuerste Swanson, with officers as follows: Susan Zmyslony, president; Emily Fuerste Swanson, vice president; Dawn Bergeron, treasurer; Cynthia Johnson, secretary.

Call or email the CCHS office to reserve your spot at the annual meeting or to request a Zoom invite. Covid restrictions will be in place regarding attendance and social distancing. Please call 218-879-1983 or email [email protected] to volunteer.
