A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Cromwell-Wright families, we are able to have three more exchange students for next year. If you would like to learn more about the world, but are not wanting to travel yet, host an exchange student. Host families come in all shapes and sizes, and you just need to provide three meals a day and a place to sleep. Students are looking for American families to call their own. Call PAX coordinator Lori Wester at 218-343-8802.
The last day of school at Cromwell-Wright is June 2, with graduation at 7 p.m. May 28.
The fifth- and sixth-grade track and field day is May 28. Parents and spectators are welcome.
The Cromwell-Wright spring band showcase is at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
The Floodwood school will graduate 25 seniors May 28.
These past months have been very unusual for all the students in our area, but with grit and determination, the students and staff carried on the best they could, and hopefully we can return to a new type of normal soon. I have become quite close to the Floodwood class, as I have subbed there going on 22 years, covering all of their years in school there. On May 14 I was surprised with a special welcome to the school as the staff and students declared it “Jennie Hanson Day.” I received lots of thanks, a couple of gift cards, a beautiful metal flower yard ornament, and a huge card signed by the students and staff. I want to thank you all for making this day so special for me, and I will remember it forever. You can be proud of your school for their kindness to so many in the area.
And speaking of Floodwood, did you know there are seven senior class pictures missing from the walls of the school? They aren’t actually missing, as they were never done in the first place. The classes are from 1993, 1997, 2002, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. I hear that the class of 2021 has theirs done, or almost done, so it will be placed on the wall soon. If you are a former Floodwood graduate from any of the missing years, maybe you can get together with classmates and complete your composite so the history of the school is complete. Photos can even be taken from your yearbooks, if nothing else works.
The return of Cromwell Area Young Old Timers meetings will commence June 8 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion at noon with officers serving lunch. A dance is planned for June 24. If attendance is good, the dances and meetings will continue every month thereafter. If you are new to the area or just want to check out our Cromwell Area YOT, please feel free to attend these events.
The Floodwood VFW Post 8299 will be at the Wright Park for Memorial Day services at 8 a.m. May 31. This year, Wes Heikkila will be the honored veteran, as he passed away June 25, 2020. Bring your American flags and wear red, white and blue.
And speaking of the military, pediatrician Rebecca Burns was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Air Force. Her husband, Brandon Burns, is waiting for an upcoming promotion. They reside in Alaska with their two young daughters.
Sulo and Delores Walli have moved to Evergreen Knoll in Cloquet to be more centrally located to family. Their grandson and wife, Brandon and Katie Gresczyk, are buying their farm.
Sulo and Delores’ new address is 1309 14th St. Apt. 318, Cloquet MN 55720. They look forward to “keeping in touch.”
That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
