Wright/Cromwell news

I see the veterans memorial in the Wright park is being restored to its original condition. This has been a very sad sight for the past few months, but it is now going to be the tribute it should be.

The Floodwood VFW Post 8299 will be at the Wright park for Memorial Day services on May 31, at 8 a.m. to honor our veterans. This year, Wes Heikkila will be the honored veteran, as he passed away June 25, 2020. His inurnment was at the Prairie Lake cemetery. Bring your American flags and wear red, white and blue.

The Farmers Co-op store in Wright will offer our area active duty military and veterans a 10-percent discount on purchases during Memorial Day weekend as thanks for their service. The store will also resume summer hours, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The first Cromwell Area Young Old Timers meeting in more than a year will start at 12 p.m. June 8 at the Cromwell Park Pavilion. The first Senior Dance is June 24.

The pavilion is reserved on June 1 for cleaning beginning at 9 a.m. Any help is appreciated. We will be cleaning fan blades and kitchen cupboards and shelves.

Many family and friends attended the memorial gathering at the Floodwood fair building for David Alan Tveit, 68, of Floodwood who passed away unexpectedly March 14. The shared memories and music was inspirational and Dave will be deeply missed.

The Pine Knot News is featuring area artists and photographers by displaying their work, including several photographs by John Dahlman. An artist reception at the Pine Knot office has been tentatively rescheduled for June 10.

The Cromwell-Wright School choir and band concerts were held last week. They both were really great. MaryRose Varo was not able to attend and direct the choirs due to a Covid exposure, but her students were so well-prepared that they pulled off the concert with some help from band director Drew Morrisette and teacher Carol Scharnberg. Extra help was provided by Terry Sawdy and Aurora Gervais for getting them online, and to Katherine Libbon, Alaina Lind and Andrea Pocernich for pitching in to help direct and coordinate the many details involved. Ann Markusen accompanied several selections on the piano. Because of them, the show did go on.

The last day of school at Cromwell-Wright is June 2, with graduation at 7 p.m. Friday, May 28. The school yearbooks are here, so if you ordered one and haven’t gotten yours yet, please call the school, 644-3737, ext. 1000.

We wish Aurelia Hemmila a very happy belated 90th birthday (May 18). Have a great year. Cards and notes can be sent to her at 22027 420th St. Room 6, McGregor MN 55760.

You have probably noticed the hummingbirds are back. With that in mind, make your own hummingbird juice by simply adding 1 part sugar to 4 parts boiled water. Stir to dissolve the sugar, and cool to room temperature. Adding red dye is not recommended. The red colors on your feeders are enough to attract the hummingbirds.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
