State has vaccine incentives as county hit 70% goal

Carlton County will host a walk-in Covid-19 vaccination clinic from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Carlton County Community Services Building in downtown Cloquet. People age 18 or older can pre-register or just walk in for a Johnson & Johnson or Moderna vaccine.

On top of that, anyone who gets their first Covid-19 vaccine through June 30 will be eligible for a special reward. Rewards include entrance passes to the Great Lakes Aquarium in Duluth, a 30-point Mall of America Nickelodeon Universe pass, an annual Minnesota fishing license, a Minnesota State Parks vehicle permit, admission to the Minnesota Zoo for one adult, two tickets to the state fair, one Valleyfair pass, a $25 Visa card or one reserved ticket to attend a Northwoods League baseball game, including the Duluth Huskies.

The county will also hold another clinic July 13, same time, same place, but the rewards program ends June 30. Reward requests must be submitted to the Minnesota Department of Health by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday. Vaccine information will be subject to verification by the Department of Health.

A mobile vaccination clinic last Thursday at Our Savor’s Lutheran Church helpedp push Carlton County past the 70 percent mark for people ages 16 and older receiving at least one dose of a Covid vaccine, according to Carlton County public health nurse Jenny Barta. Statewide, the total population with at least one dose is at just under 55 percent. Vaccines are currently approved for ages 12 and up.

In Carlton County, Covid-19 cases since the pandemic began stood at 3,530 as of Tuesday, with 56 deaths officially caused by Covid.

There are currently no schools or senior living facilities in Carlton County on the state lists of facilities with cases and exposures.
