Wright/Cromwell news

There was a great turnout for the Extreme Team’s rummage sale last weekend. Folks were so generous with donations and so many items to sell. The next big rummage sale will be held July 16 and 17 at St. John’s in Wright for Wrong Days. There will also be baked items and lunch.

Wrong Days is here and is scheduled for July 16-18 at the Wright park in Wright. Vendors and more volunteers are also welcome; call Linda at 218-380-8987. A full schedule of events will be posted and available for you to pick up at the Farmers Co-op in Wright.

The parade starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Groth Lumber area. Setup is 9:30 a.m .; call Rick Gresczyk at 952-215-1973. Rick wants everyone to know that Wrong Days will be honoring our area vets, first responders, musicians, and our senior citizens.

We also want to meet local business leaders and politicians. We’d like floats or signs to advertise upcoming events. We want to honor our youth, their teams and accomplishments. This year’s grand marshals are longtime Wrong Days volunteers Jake Kachinske and yours truly, Jennie K. Hanson.

The Harvest Fest stand-still parade will be held 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11 at Cromwell Park Pavilion. The theme this year, the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, is “Remembering 9/11.” Patriotic themes are encouraged; consider creating a photo op on your float. Float prizes are $100, $75 and $50. Contact Deb Switzer at 218-340-1968. There is no entry fee, but advance registration is requested for staging purposes.

The first YOT Senior dance will be held 1-4 p.m. Thursday, July 22 with music by Two for the Road at the Cromwell Park Pavilion, complete with air conditioning, and water and pop will be available. All area folks are welcome; you don’t have to be a senior citizen either. Veterans will be honored at the end of the dance.

Musician Bill Haapoja will visit the Villa Vista at 6 p.m. Monday, July 26. Fully vaccinated folks are welcome to attend. All persons entering the Villa must be e-screened; call 218-644-3331, and employees will screen you at the door. Vaccinated folks who have provided a copy of their vaccination cards do not have to wear masks; please give your copy to Jeanne Peters during the week, and not to other staff. Those who have not provided a copy of their vaccination cards must wear masks in hallways, and may remove masks once in rooms with family members. Finally, unvaccinated visitors must wear masks at all times in the building.

The family of Mary Purcell, who passed away Oct. 9 at the age of 92, will hold a graveside gathering at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at Wright Public Cemetery. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Larry. It’s been more than 14 years since Mary left Wright to live closer to her family in Minneapolis, but she is well remembered for her community and church activism. I wrote to her almost every week. Cards of condolence can be sent to Susan Purcell, 460 5th Ave. N. Apt 424, Hopkins MN 55343.

Be sure to register your students for this school year so the school can make class size decisions, etc. If you know of new families with school-aged children, please let them know to call the school for registration information, 218-644-3737 ext. 1000.

That’s all the news from the Edge of Wright.
