Political flags are gone in Scanlon

A property in Scanlon with political flags on a pole disparaging President Joe Biden and voters with expletives, and supporting former President Donald Trump, is being sold, and the flags are gone. According to real estate listings, the home at 22nd Street and Doddridge Avenue on the border with Cloquet was listed in earaly June for $250,000. The home hadn't sold as of early this week and the price had been reduced to $224,000.

In March, the Pine Knot News had a story about the flags and community reaction to them. Despite the efforts of Scanlon city officials and area police to reason with the homeowner, the flags remained.

Military veterans, including Scanlon city council member Ron Stiger, had been especially upset, since the residence had been the home of former VFW commander Keith Burggraff. The World War II veteran erected the tall flagpole outside the home and was proud to display American flags there, of which at least two had once flown over the U.S. Capitol. He died in 2019 and the house was sold in October of that year.
