The Extreme Team youth group had a very successful car wash last weekend. We have to give these kids and their adult leaders a lot of credit for earning their way to the ELCA national youth convention next summer in Minneapolis. They will need to earn about $18,000 for the group to attend and they are only partway to meeting this goal.

The family of Mary Purcell had an informal celebration of life gathering for her Aug. 6 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wright. There were five beautifully done picture boards, memories shared, and several members of her family were in attendance.

Michelle Hedin just received word from her classmate Luana Vigness that her husband, John, died June 1. He had multiple sclerosis and was in a care facility in Liberal, Kansas, near Turpin, Oklahoma, where he lived for years. He was a veteran, serving from 1965 to 1967. He and Luana had two sons. Their infant son, Nathan, preceded John in death.

There are now 40 members of the Cromwell Area YOT. New members are always welcome.

The Carlton County fair is Aug. 19-22 and I am looking for volunteers to work at the Little Red Schoolhouse. Call me at 808-366-6582 or 218-357-2385 if you can spare a couple of hours volunteering. Those who have done this seem to really enjoy their time visiting with the folks who come to look around this old one-room schoolhouse.

The Wounded Warriors United of Minnesota event is Aug. 21 at the Cromwell Park pavilion. Visit their website, wwumn.org, for details. If you are not able to ride but want to participate in this worthy cause, send your donations to Wounded Warriors United Minnesota, care of Logan Shiflett, P.O. Box 5, Cromwell MN 55726. Or contact Logan at 218-390-1699 for more information or to register for the ride. All donations go to help our local wounded vets.
