A hometown newspaper with a local office, local owners & lots of local news
Things have changed at the Carlton County Transfer Station effective this week. Prices have changed and users are being asked to sort loads so items are neatly arranged and visible before arriving at the facility on Minnesota Highway 210 west of Interstate 35.
The goal is customers making fewer trips to the station to avoid traffic snarls. Carlton County Zoning and Environmental Services, which operates the station, posted online a photo of traffic backed up and recalled an incident when a car was nearly rear-ended in the left-hand turn lane. Another woman told the office she nearly lost her life in the same situation. “She was in tears and begged our office to find a solution before someone dies,” the post read. “We truly are asking our customers to come to the facility less frequently with garbage and hope the minimum charges encourage this behavior.”
Price changes include:
• A minimum charge of $10 per cubic yard for bagged household garbage.
• A minimum charge of $15 for mixed waste (unbagged) and large bulky items. Mixed waste will not be accepted on Wednesdays.
• Lower costs for construction and demolition waste on Wednesdays, at $6 per cubic yard vs. $15 per any other day. Mixed waste will not be accepted on Wednesdays.
